Musician and composer Ronnie Burrage to speak Jan. 21

Percussionist, musician, and composer Ronnie Burrage will speak Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 4 p.m. in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Burrage is considered one of the best jazz musicians on the world scene today. He has played with Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, and Archie Shepp, among others, and is featured on more than 100 recordings. His latest productions, Spirit Guides / Truth and Love Music and Blue Noise, may be some of his greatest works.

Burrage's lecture, The Influence of Jazz and Hip Hop on American Culture, is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the Division of Arts and Humanities.

"Prof Burrage is known not only for his virtuoso ability with all forms of percussion, but as an innovative composer and program designer who can put together dramatic musical programs which are deeply educational and altogether entertaining. I am writing these things because I think more people need to know Ronnie Burrage, who has been on the scene, like they say, and has been saying something musically, at a very high level." — Amiri Baraka
