Martin Luther King Jr. Week set for January 20 - 25

Penn State Altoona is planning a series of events in commemoration of 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Week.
A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Reflection Luncheon will be held on Monday, January 20 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Adler Athletic Complex. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food or cereal donations for the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.
An MLK Service day will be held on Tuesday, January 21 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in community service projects.
Tim Wise, a renowned anti-racist diversity speaker, will speak on Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Pond View Lounge of the Slep Student Center. Refreshments will be provided.
A program titled “1001 Inventions” will be presented on Thursday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Pond View Lounge of the Slep Student Center. "1001 Inventions" is a theatrical production introducing the audience to 1001 inventions invented by Black Americans. This production will reveal what life would be like without these visionaries. Refreshments will be provided.
An “’I Have a Dream’ Speech and MLK Literary Reception” will be held on Friday, January 24 from noon – 2:00 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center. The event will feature literary work by Penn State Altoona students. Light refreshments will be served.
The week will conclude with an MLK Altoona Community Service Day on Saturday, January 25 at various locations in the area. Registration is required for the event. Those interested can sign up at https://orgsync.com/22053/forms/92400 online.
