Music in American Life: An Encyclopedia of the Songs, Styles, Stars and Stories that Shaped Our Culture has been named a 2014 Outstanding Reference Source by the RUSA/American Library Association. The four-volume encyclopedia, intended for high school students and general readers, is edited by Dr. Jacqueline Edmondson, associate vice president and associate dean for undergraduate education, and has entries written by several Penn State faculty and alumni, including Kenneth Womack, senior associate dean for Academic Affairs at Penn State Altoona.
The books, published by Greenwood/ABC-CLIO, provide an exploration of the relationship between American culture and music as defined by musicians, scholars, and critics from around the world.
