Jabbeh Wesley is featured poet at international poetry festival in Kenya

Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, associate professor of English at Penn State Altoona, is an invited, featured poet in the 2014 Kistrech Poetry Festival in Kenya, East Africa. Hosted by the Kistrech Theatre International, the festival takes place in the city of Kisii, Kenya, from July 30 to August 4, 2014.

The International Poetry Festival will feature renowned poets from Europe, South America, Africa, the United States, and other locations around the world. Jabbeh Wesley was invited to read her poetry and to give a talk on “The Beauty and Difficulties of Being an African Poet/Writer in the Diaspora.” Jabbeh Wesley and dozens of other poets will visit grade schools, colleges, and universities. They will also visit a village in Kisii to learn about the local people’s culture, customs, and traditional practices, including partaking in their traditional foods. The festival poets will perform their poems at Lake Victoria and at the Kenya National Park, where they will read their poems near the animals.
