The 25th annual African-American Monday Marathon Read-In Chain was celebrated at Penn State Altoona February 24. This year’s theme was Lift Every Voice.
The Marathon is an Open Mic event featuring various musical and spoken performances to celebrate African-American authors and artists. Students, faculty, and staff participated in the day-long event. Ronnie Burrage, an American jazz drummer, offered the key-note presentation, "Jazz, Hip Hop, and Poetry."
Yana Harvey, featured author of the 2014 African-American Read-In at Penn State Altoona, gave a reading of her works and signed books for those in attendance.
The 2014 African-American Read-In at Penn State Altoona events are sponsored by Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry, chancellor; The Letters Arts and Sciences Program; The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, The Division of Arts and Humanities; The Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences; The Altoona College Honors Program; and the Blair County NAACP.
