The Next Generation Indie Book Awards has selected Kenneth Womack’s novel Playing the Angel for Best Cover Design in its annual fiction awards category. Womack designed the book’s cover art with assistance from Roseanna Shumskas, who designed the book’s logo. Playing the Angel was published by Stephen F. Austin State University Press in August 2013.

Womack is Penn State Altoona's senior associate dean for Academic Affairs, as well as the Penn State Laureate for the 2013-14 academic year. He is the author of two other novels: John Doe No. 2 and the Dreamland Motel (2010), which earned ForeWord Reviews’ Bronze Award for Literary Fiction, and The Restaurant at the End of the World (2012), which won the Gold Medal in the Independent Publisher Book Awards for Regional Fiction.

Womack is also the author or editor of numerous works of nonfiction, including Long and Winding Roads: The Evolving Artistry of the Beatles (2007) and The Cambridge Companion to the Beatles (2009). His next Beatles-related book, The Beatles Encyclopedia: Everything Fab Four, will be published in June 2014. Shumskas serves as Alumni Publications Coordinator for Penn State Altoona’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
