Waldemar Rivera-Berrios Named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona men's volleyball sophomore libero Waldemar Rivera-Berrios (Toa Alta, P.R./Samuel Clemens) was chosen as the North Eastern Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Rivera-Berrios had a huge weekend anchoring Penn State Altoona's defensive efforts in the team's first three NEAC matches of the season at SUNY Polytechnic Institute last Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. The sophomore led all players in digs during each match.
In a tough 3-2 loss to SUNY Polytechnic on Friday evening, Rivera-Berrios totaled 19 digs. He opened the next day by tallying 12 digs in a 3-0 victory over Keuka College. Later that day, the Lions defeated Wells College 3-1 and Rivera-Berrios finished with a career-high 25 digs.
Rivera-Berrios finished the weekend with 56 total digs for an average of 4.67 digs per set. He currently leads the NEAC in digs (125) and digs per set (4.31). This is the second NEAC Defensive Player of the Week award that Rivera-Berrios has earned this season.
Penn State Altoona men's volleyball is back in action this Saturday, February 11 in the Elmira College Invitational. The Lions take on Lasell College that day at 2:00 p.m. before facing Southern Vermont College at 4:00 p.m.
