Waldemar Rivera-Berrios Named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week for Third Consecutive Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - For the third week in a row, the North Eastern Athletic Conference has bestowed its men's volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor to Penn State Altoona sophomore libero Waldemar Rivera-Berrios (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Samuel Clemens).

Rivera-Berrios continued to display strong and steady defense for the Lions on Saturday, when the team went 1-1 in the Elmira College Invitational.

In a tough five-set loss to #15 Lasell College on Saturday afternoon, Rivera-Berrios led all players in the match with 20 digs. Later that day, he tallied two digs while playing one set in a 3-0 win over Southern Vermont College.

Rivera-Berrios totaled 22 digs, averaging 3.67 digs per set on the week. The sophomore currently leads the NEAC in digs (147) and averages an NCAA Division III best 4.20 digs per set.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball returns to the court for three NEAC matches this weekend at Lancaster Bible College. On Friday, February 17, the Lions take on Hilbert College at 6:00 p.m. and Medaille College at 8:00 p.m. Then, on Saturday, February 18, the team wraps up its weekend with an 11:00 a.m. match against D'Youville College.
