Finding My Path: Barbara Hong
Penn State Altoona's office of Institutional Equity and Diversity offered a presentation by Barbara Hong, associate professor of special education, on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from 12:10 - 1:10 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Edith Davis Eve chapel. Hong's presentation was the first in a series of brown bag luncheon's titled "Finding My Path." The series offers informal reflections by faculty members on their personal journeys and intellectual passions. Emerging Writer in Residence offers Reading
Casey Wiley, Penn State Altoona’s 2009 Emerging Writer-in-Residence, read from his work on Wednesday, September 16, at 5 p.m. in the Eve Davis Chapel. Wiley earned his MFA from George Mason University. Specializing in creative nonfiction, he has published in such journals as "Gorilla Dust," "Fringe Magazine," "Emerson Review," "Pindledyboz," and "Penddragon Literary and Arts Magazine," among others, and was selected as a finalist for Glimmertrain’s Short Story Award for New Writers.

Penn State Altoona receives historic $2.5 million gift from Steve and Nancy Sheetz
Altoona residents Stephen G. and Nancy L. Sheetz have made a $2.5 million commitment to Penn State Altoona, the largest gift in the 70-year history of the campus. The gift will offer students new opportunities to excel in entrepreneurial studies. The donors will announce specific designations for the gift at a future date.

Penn State Altoona held its spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Blair County Convention Center. The commencement speaker was Dr. John Romano, vice-president of Commonwealth Campuses at Penn State.
