In celebration of the twenty-first national African-American Read-In Chain, Penn State Altoona hosted a day-long event that featured live music, literature, dancing, and celebration. Students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Slep Student Center to share readings, sing music, and perform dance inspired by African-Americans. The 2010 theme was "a matter of gathering," from the title of featured author Dawn Lundy Martin's poetry collection.

The Read-In was sponsored by Dr. Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry, Chancellor; The English Program's Writers and Speakers Series; The Letters Arts and Sciences Program; The Office of Student Affairs; The Division of Arts and Humanities; The Women's Studies Program; The Altoona College Honors Program; and The Blair County NAACP.
