AMTRAN to Work

Posted Wednesday, August 27, 2008

New on NOW

A message from Chancellor Bechtel-Wherry:

With gas at nearly $4.00/gallon, people are looking for alternative ways to travel. A number of Penn State Altoona employees already ride AMTRAN to work and, as part of the "Save Green, Go Green"campaign, AMTRAN would like to help increase that number.

In addition to its regular routes, AMTRAN currently runs an "AMTRAN to Work" bus each morning. In just one trip, this bus delivers employees to their jobs as far apart as Norfolk Southern in Juniata to North American Communications in Duncansville. It also gets people to work at retail and service establishments along Plank Road and Pleasant Valley Blvd.

AMTRAN wants to create more "AMTRAN to Work" routes to help people get to their jobs in the morning. Usually the afternoon service or the "Home Run" bus can get people home from work later in the day.Because of the ongoing partnership between AMTRAN and Penn State Altoona, students, faculty, and staff ride the entire AMTRAN system for free.

To find out if AMTRAN can help you, visit their new Web site at www.amtran.org. It includes AMTRAN schedules, maps, and service details in both viewable and downloadable formats.

For personal attention, visit www.amtran.org/index.asp?pageID=96. Fill out the short survey, and AMTRAN staff will get back to you.

Or you can call AMTRAN at 814-944-4074 Monday through Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and tell them where you are traveling from, your destination, and when you need to arrive at work.

Note: AMTRAN is currently conducting a survey to assess community interest in creating a commuter service between Altoona and State College. To complete the survey, visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=2UnHPXoMcIYCnkKpuO9ekA_3d_3d

Reminder: Using Penn State Altoona Facilities for your Event

Posted Wednesday, August 27, 2008

New on NOW

As we start the new academic year, the Office of University Relations would like to remind you about the policies regarding the reservation and usage of our facilities for events.

The Office of University Relations handles reservation and coordination of our facilities for non-University organizations and events. For example, if a faculty or staff member is involved in a community group (church, non-profit organization, school club, etc.) and wishes to use our facilities for a meeting or event for that group, you must contact the Office of University Relations for all matters related to that event. A University indemnification form and insurance certificate will be required. In addition, there will be a fee charged for such usage. See http://www.altoona.psu.edu/ur/rates.htm for current rates.

If a faculty or staff member desires to use our facilities for a Penn State Altoona meeting or event sponsored (such a program run by a student organization or by an academic program or division), the Office of University Relations would not be involved and no indemnification form/insurance would be required and a fee would not be charged. Reservations and related matters will be handled by the specific organization or program running the event.

Use of the Laurel Pavilion is free and open to the public, on a first-come, first served basis. However, to ensure that your group has priority use of the pavilion, it is recommended that you contact the Office of University Relations to make your reservation and our office will post a reserved sign at the pavilion for that time period.

For more information regarding facilities usage by non-University organizations, please visit: http://www.altoona.psu.edu/ur/facilities.htm online.
