Men's Golf Wins PSA Invitational; Perry Wins Top Spot Among Individuals
ROARING SPRING, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's golf team placed first in the 2011 Penn State Altoona Men's Golf Invitational at Iron Masters Country Club on Friday afternoon.
The first place finish marks the second year in a row that the Lions have won their home golf event.
Penn State Altoona finished with a team score of 301 on the par 72 course. Pitt-Johnstown, the only non-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team at the invitational, placed second with 314. La Roche College finished third with 320.
The Lions' Chris Perry (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was the top individual golfer out of a field of 34, making par by shooting a 72.
Perry was followed by teammate Landon Hollenshead (Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan), tied for second with a score of 75.
Wes Elder (Roaring Spring, PA/Martinsburg Central) placed fifth, shooting a 76. Tom Trexler (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) tied for seventh place with a score of 78.
Brock Dillon (Roaring Spring, PA/Martinsburg Central) shot an 80 to tie for 13th, and Kevin McLaughlin (Ligonier, PA/Ligonier Valley) rounded out the squad, tying for 18th by shooting an 83.
