News ItemWomen's Tennis Splits in Weekend Buffalo Trip
10/2/2011 — BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team lost 5-4 at D'Youville College on Saturday night, then bounced back for a 7-2 win at Medaille College on Sunday. The Lady Lions went 3-for-6 in singles against D'Youville. Alex Grund (Philadelphia, PA/Cheltenham), Taylor Pompili (Renovo, PA/Bucktail), and Emily Hockenberry (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) won in #3, #5, and #6 singles, respectively. But Penn State Altoona was able to win just one of three events in doubles, as the pair of Caroline Dudley (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional)/Kathryn Dudley (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) won in #3 doubles. Against Medaille, the Lady Lions secured four wins in singles play. Alexis Orr (Muncy, PA/Muncy) won in #1, Grund won in #3, Aeriale Spotts (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) won in #4, and Hockenberry won in #6. Penn State Altoona swept Medaille in doubles, as the pairs of Orr/Katelyn Piper (Roaring Spring, PA/Martinsburg Central), Grund/Pompili, and Kathryn Dudley/Kelsey Pfeiffenberger (Gilbertsville, PA/St. Pius X) were all victorious.
