Lady Lions in Fourth After Day One of State Bowling Championships


ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team finished day one of the 2012 Pennsylvania State Women's Bowling Championships in fourth place after Saturday's competition at Holiday Bowl.

The Lady Lions totalled a pinfall of 3719 in five matches throughout the day. Kutztown University held down first place with 4580 total pins.

Penn State Altoona won two and lost two on Saturday, earning victories over Lincoln University (788-630) and Cheyney University (718-677) while falling to Kutztown (903-745) and Saint Francis University (914-718).

Shannel Ashby (Philadelphia, PA/Science Leadership Academy) led the Lady Lions by bowling an average of 161.2 in five games.

Toni Watt (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) averaged a 161.0 in five games for Penn State Altoona, and Stephanie Hawk (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) posted a 159.25 average in five games.

The second and final day of the event begins Sunday morning at 9:45 AM at Holiday Bowl. The teams will be placed in a bracket and play through three rounds of baker format matches to determine the champion.
