Lions Post 5-2 Win Over Hilbert in Game One
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball pulled out a gritty 5-2 win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Hilbert College in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Stewart Athletic Field.
Anthony Castelli (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) started on the mound and earned the win for the Lions, going five innings and allowing two runs.
Penn State Altoona scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.
Derek Danver's (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) RBI single to center in the bottom of the first got his team on the scoreboard.
Matt Schmauder (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) made it 2-0 in the second when his single up the middle scored another run.
In the third, Nate Bennett (Monroeton, PA/Towanda) hit an RBI single up the middle.
Chris Hoak helped bring Hilbert within one run. His RBI single in the fourth and sacrifice fly in the fifth cut the Lions' lead to 3-2.
But Penn State Altoona plated a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to widen the gap, thanks to RBI singles from Levi Rentzel (York, PA/Central York) and Bennett.
Josh Clark (Millersburg, PA/Millersburg) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to notch the save, his first of the season.
