Lions Lose Doubleheader at Behrend
ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball was swept in a doubleheader with Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon at the Behrend Diamond, falling 5-1 in game one and 7-1 in game two.
Trailing 1-0 in the first game, the Lions tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning on Nate Bennett's (Monroeton, PA/Towanda) RBI single to right-center.
But Behrend put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second and held Penn State Altoona scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.
In game two, the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Cord Heine (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg Academy) hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
Behrend tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, then went up 2-1 in the third on a Matt Bittner RBI single.
Ryan Geibel hit a grand slam in the fifth to put the home team up 6-1, and Behrend added a run in the sixth on an error.
Jimmy Baum (Shermans Dale, PA/West Perry) led Penn State Altoona at the plate in game two, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a stolen base.
