Game Two Win Helps Lions Split Twinbill With Pitt-Bradford
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball bounced back from its loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with Pitt-Bradford for a 12-4 win over the Panthers in game two at Stewart Athletic Field on Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Castelli (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) picked up the win to improve to 3-2, pitching six innings and allowing two runs. He struck out six batters.
The Lions erased a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third. Cord Heine (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg Academy) drove in the first run of the game with his double to right field. Derek Danver (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) followed with a two-run single to center. Nate Bennett (Monroeton, PA/Towanda) and Matt Schmauder (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) added RBI singles to make it 5-0.
After Pitt-Bradford got two runs back in the top of the fourth, Penn State Altoona responded in the bottom of the inning by increasing their lead to 7-2 on a two-run single by Bennett.
In the fifth, Heine's triple to right-center scored two runs. Danver, Ken Terpack (Rennerdale, PA/Chartiers Valley), and Schmauder contributed RBI hits to put the Lions up 12-2.
