Lions Win Game Two 11-1 Over Redhawks
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball bounced back from a loss in game one of their doubleheader with La Roche College to defeat the Redhawks 11-1 in game two on Tuesday afternoon at Stewart Athletic Field.
Chris Keeler (Oxford, PA/Oxford) threw a complete game to earn the win for the Lions. He allowed one run over seven innings while striking out seven batters.
Jordan Swope (State College, PA/State College/Tussey Mountain) led Penn State Altoona at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
The Lions took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Derek Danver (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) hit an RBI single up the middle and Nate Bennett (Monroeton, PA/Towanda) reached on a fielder's choice to allow another run to score. Danver later scored on an error.
Penn State Altoona kept the runs coming in the fourth. Swope's RBI single up the middle made it 4-0. Shortly thereafter, Jimmy Baum (Shermans Dale, PA/West Perry) and Swope scored on a pair of La Roche errors. Bennett added an RBI single to put the Lions up 7-0.
Swope made it 8-0 in the fifth with his RBI triple to left field. Cord Heine (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg Academy) followed with an RBI double, and Danver's single through the left side plated another run to give the home team a 10-0 lead.
Ken Terpack (Rennerdale, PA/Chartiers Valley) blasted a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning, making it 11-0.
