Waynesburg Takes Game One From Lions 13-5
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball could not keep pace with Waynesburg University in game one of the teams' doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field on Friday afternoon, as the Yellow Jackets claimed a 13-5 win.
The Lions dug themselves an early hole when the Yellow Jackets scored five runs in the top of the first.
Penn State Altoona responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Cord Heine's (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg Academy) RBI double to left-center brought home the team's first run, and Derek Danver (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) added a two-run single through the left side to make it 5-3.
Levi Rentzel (York, PA/Central York) helped his team get one run closer in the third inning when his groundout scored Jordan Swope (State College, PA/State College/Tussey Mountain).
Penn State Altoona was able to tie the game 5-5 in the fourth when Jeff Huczko (Delmont, PA/Greensburg Salem) scored on a fielding error by the Waynesburg left fielder.
But the Yellow Jackets silenced the Lion bats through the next three innings while scoring eight runs themselves to take the victory in game one.
