Lions Rally Past Frostburg 6-3; Rain Cancels Game Two
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball defeated Frostburg State University 6-3 in the first game of Thursday afternoon's doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field, but heavy rain forced game two to be cancelled in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied 3-3.
John Barrett's two-run home run in the top of the first inning handed Frostburg a 2-0 lead.
The Lions got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on Ken Terpack's (Rennerdale, PA/Chartiers Valley) RBI double down the right field line.
In the second, Pat Sapp's RBI single through the left side gave the visitors a 3-1 advantage.
But Jordan Swope (State College, PA/State College/Tussey Mountain) tied the game in the fourth with his two-run single to right.
Penn State Altoona grabbed a 4-3 lead in the sixth when Tim Norris (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) scored from third on a balk called on Frostburg's pitcher. One batter later, Cord Heine (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg Academy) delivered some insurance with his two RBI single to center that made it 6-3.
Josh Clark (Millersburg, PA/Millersburg) induced a groundball double play in the seventh to end the game. Clark threw two scoreless innings to pick up the victory, allowing just one walk.
The Lions close out their 2012 regular season schedule this Saturday, April 28 on the road when they travel to face AMCC opponent D'Youville College. The doubleheader will be played at Bobo Field on the campus of Niagara University beginning at 1:00 PM.
