Softball Loses Game One to D'Youville 8-6
ALTOONA, Pa. - Hannah Norton's seventh inning home run lifted D'Youville College over Penn State Altoona softball 8-6 on Friday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field.
The Lady Spartans plated four runs in the top of the second inning, then scored two more in the third to take a 6-0 lead early in the ballgame.
Penn State Altoona cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the third. Jackie Smith (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) scored on an error ahead of RBI singles by Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) and Lily Glunt (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle).
In the fourth, Brittany Smith's (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) RBI single to left made it 6-4.
Kahla Lutz (York, PA/West York) tied the game at 6-6 with her two-run home run to center field in the sixth.
But Norton, who was also the Lady Spartans' starting pitcher, hit a two-run shot of her own in the seventh to give D'Youville an 8-6 advantage and ultimately the win.
