Lady Lions Grab 5-2 Win in Game Two
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona softball bounced back from its loss in game one to defeat Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent D'Youville College 5-2 in the second game of the teams' doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field on Friday.
Allison Stugart (South Williamsport, PA/South Williamsport) pitched well for the Lady Lions, throwing a complete game and allowing just two runs to improve to 12-4 this season.
D'Youville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Gabby Lathrop's RBI single to left-center.
But Penn State Altoona made it 2-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to right-center by Kahla Lutz (York, PA/West York) and a run-scoring single through the left side by Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle).
The Lady Lions added three more runs to their lead in the fifth. Lily Glunt (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) picked up the RBI when a run scored on her fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Christina Stathes (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) grounded a two-run single up the middle to give her team a 5-1 lead.
D'Youville scored a run in the seventh, but Penn State Altoona remained in control of the game and closed it out with a victory.
