Softball Falls 9-1 to Top-Seeded Behrend
ERIE, Pa. - #2 seed Penn State Altoona softball lost 9-1 to #1 seed Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon at Behrend Field in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament.
The Lady Lions will now face #6 Pitt-Bradford in an elimination game at 5:30 PM today. The winner will go on to face Penn State Behrend tomorrow, Sunday, May 6 at 10:00 AM in the AMCC Championship.
Penn State Behrend took a lead early in Saturday's game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and two runs in the second. Ashley Gruber accounted for four of her team's five RBIs in the first two innings, hitting a two-run home run in the first and a two-run double in the second.
Allison Stugart (South Williamsport, PA/South Williamsport) put Penn State Altoona on the scoreboard in the top of the third with an RBI single to left, making it 5-1.
But Penn State Behrend scored three more runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to end the game 9-1 after six innings.
Ala Miller (Muncy, PA/Muncy) was the top hitter for Penn State Altoona, going 2-for-2 with a run scored.
