Three Penn State Altoona Teams Earn Peak Performer Awards
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Three Penn State Altoona varsity teams were recognized for having the highest cumulative grade point averages in their respective sports when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its list of 2011-2012 Winter and Spring Peak Performers.
In winter sports, the Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming & diving teams were honored for having the highest team GPAs among their peers. The men's squad compiled a 3.27 team GPA, while the women's team tallied a 3.42 team GPA.
In spring sports, Penn State Altoona softball posted the highest team GPA of any AMCC spring team with a 3.46.
The Peak Performer award recognizes an AMCC team in each sport with the highest cumulative grade point average. The honor was created prior to the 2011-2012 season to focus greater attention on the academic accomplishments of AMCC teams.
Penn State Altoona's men's golf team was named a Peak Performer among fall sports earlier this year.
