Valiando's Goals Help Women's Soccer Claim First Win
9/25/2012 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Anne Valiando (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) scored two goals on Tuesday afternoon to help Penn State Altoona women's soccer achieve its first win of the 2012 season, a 3-2 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College.
Despite being outshot in the game, the Lady Lions capitalized on scoring opportunities by putting a season-high three goals on the scoreboard.
Theresa Deppenschmidt (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) put Penn State Altoona up 1-0 at 13:16 when she scored off of a rebound.
La Roche tied the game 1-1 on Bethanie Moreschi's score at 24:00.
At 69:51, Valiando scored her first goal of the game following a corner kick to put the Lady Lions back in the lead.
The Lady Redhawks used a corner kick situation to tie the game shortly thereafter when Moreschi netted her second goal of the contest at 73:44.
But Valiando tipped the score in favor of her team just under ten minutes later, scoring on a breakaway to give Penn State Altoona a 3-2 advantage late in the second half.
Katy Cook (Hollsopple, PA/Bishop McCort) made 18 saves in net for the Lady Lions, recording her first collegiate win.
