Men's Golf Wins La Roche Invitational
9/26/2012 — ALLISON PARK, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's golf notched a first place finish for the first time this season, winning the La Roche College Invitational on Tuesday at Wildwood Golf Club.
Penn State Altoona finished by shooting 332 as a team on the par 71 course. Penn State Behrend also had a score of 332 at the end of the event, but Penn State Altoona edged Behrend in a playoff to claim first place.
The win represents the best finish for the Lions golf team this season in head coach Greg Ferguson's first year at the helm of the program.
Penn State Altoona's Tom Trexler (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) finished as the top individual golfer out of 35 competitors at the invitational, shooting a 76.
Wes Elder (Roaring Spring, PA/Martinsburg Central) tied for 13th place with an 84, and Brad Swindell (Everett, PA/Everett) tied for 17th with an 85.
Joe Pastorek (Johnstown, PA/Bishop McCort) shot an 87 to tie for 19th place, and Casey Cameron (New York, NY/South Side) tied for 28th with a 91.
Lions golf wraps up its 2012 season at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship on October 14 and 15 at Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania.
