Juniata Hangs on to Defeat Lions 2-1
9/27/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - As the rain poured down Thursday night at Spring Run Stadium, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team poured on the pressure but was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 2-1 to Juniata College.
Juniata put the first goal on the board at 24:02 when Robby Higgins took a kick in the box and scored.
Nick Stone-Weiss increased the Eagles' lead to 2-0 at 37:41, racing after a lead pass and scoring in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
In the second half, Penn State Altoona continued to control the pace of play. It paid off at 75:18, when Quinn Oyler (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) ripped a shot from the edge of the box that beat the keeper and cut the Lions' deficit to 2-1. The goal was Oyler's first of his collegiate career.
Penn State Altoona applied strong pressure late in the half but was unable to cash in on several scoring chances. The Lions held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, with all five of them coming in the second half. They also outshot Juniata 7-5 in the second period.
Brandon Moss (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) made four saves in net for Penn State Altoona.
