Lady Lions Dealt Tough Defeat at Mount Aloysius

10/2/2012 — CRESSON, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team bounced back from a rough first set to battle Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday night, but the Lady Lions fell just short in a 3-1 loss.

Mount Aloysius took the first set 25-14, then had to fend Penn State Altoona off to narrowly win the second set 25-23. The Lady Lions made it 2-1 with a 25-20 victory in the third set, but the home team hung on to win the fourth set 25-21 and seal the match in their favor.

Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) and Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) tied for the team-high with 16 digs for Penn State Altoona. Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) added 11 digs.

Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) led the Lady Lions in kills with 19.

Marina Cotarelo (North Salem, NY/John F. Kennedy Catholic) had a team-best 31 set assists.
