Lions' Lead Slips Away as Bobcats Prevail in Double-Overtime
10/3/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - A two-goal lead by Penn State Altoona men's soccer was diminished on Wednesday night at Spring Run Stadium, as Pitt-Greensburg forced overtime and came away with a 3-2 win.
Penn State Altoona's Nick Holland (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) scored twice early in the first half to build a 2-0 lead.
Holland took a pass from Mike Robinson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) on the left side of the goal box and deflected it past the goalkeeper to put his team ahead 1-0 just 4:31 into the game.
Holland increased his team's lead to 2-0 just under 15 minutes later, scoring off of Cody Beach's (South Williamsport, PA/South Williamsport) cross from the right side of the field.
The Lions nursed their two-goal lead throughout the rest of the first half and most of the second half until a flurry of offense from Pitt-Greensburg tied the game.
The Bobcats' Craig Hixon scored at 81:51 following a free kick to cut Penn State Altoona's lead to 2-1. Shortly thereafter, Robert Smith took a pass from the right and scored to knot the score at 2-2 at the 83:10 mark.
The teams played one scoreless overtime period before Hixon scored his second goal of the game 4:14 into the second overtime, giving the Bobcats the win.
