Women's Tennis Downed 7-2 in Final Match of Season

10/7/2012 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team lost 7-2 at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College on Sunday afternoon in the Lady Lions' last match of the 2012 season.

Penn State Altoona had a strong showing to open the match when they won two out of three in doubles play.

In #1 Doubles, the team of Cassie Yatcilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East)/Leah Stoehr (Altoona, PA/Altoona) posted an 8-6 win. Alex Grund (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham)/Taylor Pompili (Renovo, PA/Bucktail) followed that with a 9-8 (7-5) victory in #2 Doubles.

But La Roche swept all six singles matches to overcome their deficit and win by five points.

With the loss, Penn State Altoona finishes 3-7 overall, including a 2-6 mark in the AMCC. The Lady Lions end up in seventh place in the conference standings, narrowly missing qualification for the AMCC postseason tournament.
