Lady Lions Snap Skid With Home Win Over La Roche
10/10/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College on Wednesday night in the Adler Gym.
The victory marked the Lady Lions' first home win of the season, as well as their first win in AMCC play this year.
Penn State Altoona controlled the match from the early stages, posting 25-21 and 25-12 wins in the first two sets. La Roche bounced back to claim the third set 25-23, but the Lady Lions were triumphant in the fourth set 25-18.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) led Penn State Altoona with 11 kills and added 11 digs.
Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) and Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) each had 10 kills for the Lady Lions. Corrigan also contributed two solo blocks and three block assists.
Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) posted nine kills, three solo blocks, and one block assist, and teammate Jessica O'Donnell (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) made six kills, two blocks, and five block assists.
Marina Cotarelo (North Salem, NY/North Salem) put up 43 set assists.
Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) led Penn State Altoona with 18 digs.
The Lady Lions host more AMCC competition on Saturday, hosting D'Youville and Hilbert at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
