Women's Soccer Defeats Hilbert 3-1 for Second AMCC Win
10/13/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team picked up its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon when it defeated Hilbert College 3-1 at Spring Run Stadium.
The Lady Lions' offense controlled much of the game, as they attempted 21 shots -- including 10 shots on goal.
Theresa Deppenschmidt (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) put Penn State Altoona on the board at 14:49 when she took a deflected pass in front of the goal box and scored.
Hilbert struck back just before halftime when Megan Van Norman lofted the ball overtop the goalkeeper to score and tie the game at 1-1 by the 42:46 mark.
But Penn State Altoona was able to reclaim the lead early in the second half. Anne Valiando (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) got the ball and rifled a shot into the right side of the net to put her team ahead 2-1.
The Lady Lions added an insurance goal at 87:53 when Ingrid Ritchie (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) scored during a scramble in the goal box.
Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) made two saves in net for Penn State Altoona to pick up the victory.
