Lady Lions Fall 4-1 to Frostburg in Season Finale
10/24/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer lost 4-1 to Frostburg State University on Wednesday evening at Spring Run Stadium. The game was the Lady Lions' last of the 2012 season.
Frostburg made it 1-0 at 18:03 on Stephanie Fazenbaker's header goal, then doubled their lead when Chelsie McCoy found the back of the net at 28:40.
But Penn State Altoona cut its deficit in half less than a minute later. Taking a pass from Katy Hartigan (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) on the right side of the field, Anne Valiando (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) made her way into the box and scored from just outside the goal box to make it 2-1 at 29:20.
Valiando's score gave her four goals this season, tying with Theresa Deppenschmidt (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) and Arianna Lantz (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) as the team's top goal scorers.
But Frostburg's Adria Graham scored twice in the second half to bolster the visitors' lead and hand the Lady Lions a loss.
Penn State Altoona goalkeepers Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) and Katy Cook (Hollsopple, PA/Bishop McCort) each made seven saves, working the first and second halves, respectively.
