Men's and Women's Swimming Fall to Pitt-Bradford in Home Opener
ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming teams opened the home portion of their 2012-2013 schedule on Saturday against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford in the Adler Natatorium. But the Panthers prevailed, winning 148-108 in the men's meet and 129-110 in the women's meet.
Among the highlights for the men's squad was Kyle Huber (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) earning three first place finishes.
Huber won the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.51, then placed first in the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 51.98. He later helped the team consisting of himself, Daniel Fritsch (State College, PA/State College), Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County), and Robert Sklodowski (Bialystok, Poland/Quince Orchard) to win the Men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in 3:30.38.
Benjamin Porter (West Chester, PA/Unionville) took a first place finish in the Men's 200 Yard IM, finishing in 2:17.00.
For the Lady Lions, Mary Elizabeth McCulloch (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) notched a pair of first places.
In the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke, McCulloch placed first with a time of 1:14.73. She also won the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle, ending with a time of 27.71.
Courtney Pinckney (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) came in first place in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:27.84.
Maria Thompson (Altoona, PA/Altoona) won the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle in 1:00.48.
