Lady Lions Drop Home Opener 65-51 to Frostburg
11/20/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's basketball hosted its first home contest of the 2012-2013 season on Tuesday evening in the Adler Gym, and the Lady Lions were defeated 65-51 by Frostburg State University.
Kylie O'Toole (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Trafford) led Penn State Altoona with 13 points, also adding six rebounds.
Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) and Allison Edwards (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg) each contributed 11 points. Corrigan grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and blocked two shots, while Edwards secured nine boards.
Alidia Strouse (State College, PA/State College) added 10 points and six rebounds.
Frostburg opened the game on a 10-0 run through the first 2:19. The Bobcats increased their lead to 26-8 by the 11:05 mark on RJ James' layup.
Penn State Altoona whittled away at the visitors' lead late in the first half. O'Toole connected from three-point range at 5:37 to make it a six point game, 28-22.
After the Bobcats went up 37-24 on a pair of Deara Parker free throws at 1:12, O'Toole hit a jumper to make it 37-26 at halftime.
Frostburg maintained a double digit lead throughout the entire second half, going up my as many as 19 points on Parker's layup at 6:08 that made it 61-42.
A 9-0 run by the Lady Lions cut their deficit to 10 points. Kelsey Heller (Claysburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge/Chugiak) made a jumper at 4:05, followed by back-to-back Corrigan layups and a trey by Strouse that brought Penn State Altoona to within 61-51 with 2:13 to play.
But the Bobcats kept the Lady Lions off of the scoreboard during the final two minutes of the game, holding their lead to take the win.
