Women's Basketball Falls 51-36 in AMCC Opener at Franciscan
11/28/2012 — STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - In their first game against an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team in their 2012-2013 schedule, the Penn State Altoona women's basketball team was defeated 51-36 by Franciscan University on Wednesday night.
Alidia Strouse (State College, PA/State College) posted a double-double, leading the Lady Lions with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Allison Edwards (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg) added nine points, five rebounds, and two assists for Penn State Altoona.
The Lady Lions found themselves down by just two points at halftime. Daijanae Greene (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) made a layup with 10 seconds left in the first half to tie the score at 19-19, but Franciscan's Sarah Prosser scored with one second on the clock to give the Lady Barons a 21-19 halftime lead.
Helen Raines' layup at 13:46 of the second half put Franciscan ahead 31-21.
The Lady Lions whittled their deficit to five by the 10:28 mark, when Greene fed a pass to Edwards, who connected from three-point range to make it 34-29.
But Franciscan went on a 9-0 run to build a 43-29 lead, then closed the game out by limiting Penn State Altoona to just seven points over the final 5:34 of the contest.
