Women's Basketball Falls 58-45 to Lady Panthers
12/1/2012 — ALTOONA, Pa. - In their first home Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup of the season, the Penn State Altoona women's basketball team was defeating 58-45 by Pitt-Bradford in the Adler Gym.
Kylie O'Toole (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Trafford) led the Lady Lions with 17 points and five steals. She also had six rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.
Alidia Strouse (State College, PA/State College) added 11 points, six rebounds, and two blocks for Penn State Altoona.
The Lady Lions opened the game on a 9-2 run. O'Toole's jumper at 18:06 put the first points on the board for either team. Several minutes later, O'Toole hit back-to-back shots to help extend her squad's lead to 7-2.
Allyson Hoffman (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) scored a fastbreak layup at 12:30 to give Penn State Altoona the 9-2 advantage.
But Pitt-Bradford exploded, outscoring the home team 27-5 throughout the rest of the first half.
Mackenzie Heale's three-pointer tied the game 9-9 at 10:29, and Melanie Yanetsko's layup with 30 seconds remaining in the period put the Lady Panthers up 29-14.
Penn State Altoona came as close as eight points from tying Pitt-Bradford's lead in the second half. O'Toole's jump shot at 11:04 cut the visitors' lead to 36-28.
But the Lady Panthers maintained a steady lead throughout the rest of the half.
Pitt-Bradford capitalized on Penn State Altoona's miscues, scoring 24 points off of 21 Lady Lion turnovers. While the home team forced 19 turnovers by Pitt-Bradford, they were only able to score seven points off of those turnovers.
