Medaille Tops Lions 86-71
2/2/2013 — BUFFALO, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona men's basketball had four players finish in double digit scoring figures on Saturday afternoon, but the Lions were outshot by Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College in an 86-71 loss at the Sullivan Center.
Penn State Altoona shot 49.2% from the field during the game, but the Mavericks hit 52.7% of their shots, including a 61.5% success rate in the first half.
Matt Gehret (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led Penn State Altoona with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Durant Harvin (Baltimore, MD/Franklin) scored 17 to go along with three assists.
Mitch Moyer (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle) and Jonathan Ross (Columbia, SC/Cross Creek) each added 14 points for the Lions.
Medaille led 21-6 at the 12:45 mark of the first half, but the Lions went on a 7-0 run capped by Harvin's layup to narrow their deficit to eight points.
But the Mavericks used a 15-6 run to add some padding to their advantage. By halftime, they led 49-36.
Medaille went up by 20, 67-47, on a Chris Willingham three-pointer at 12:07 of the second half.
Gehret's jumper capped a quick 7-0 run by the Lions that brought them to within 67-54 at 9:51.
But the Mavericks protected their lead the rest of the way to seal the win.
