Lady Lions Fall to Mount Aloysius in Pink Zone Game; Corrigan and Lady Lions Set New Single Game Records
2/6/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's basketball team was defeated by Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Mount Aloysius College 73-57 on Wednesday night in the Adler Gym. But the Lady Lions had plenty reason to be proud, raising money for the fight against breast cancer and setting two single game records in the process.
The night marked the Lady Lions' annual Pink Zone event, which benefits local breast cancer prevention and research. Through their efforts, the Lady Lions raised over $2200 in support of the Altoona Regional Hospital's digital mammography department.
Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds, which set a new single game record for Penn State Altoona women's basketball. The previous high was 18 rebounds, which was shared by two players. Former Lady Lion Jillian Klinar grabbed 18 rebounds in a game at Frostburg State University on February 13, 2002. Current Lady Lion Tamara Thomas (Altoona, PA/Altoona) had 18 rebounds against La Roche College on February 2, 2011.
Corrigan added eight points and blocked four shots.
The Lady Lions also set a single game record as a team by blocking 11 shots against Mount Aloysius. The previous record was held by the 2007-2008 Penn State Altoona women's basketball team, which denied nine shots against Mount Aloysius in a game on February 23, 2008.
Thomas posted her fourth double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
Kylie O'Toole (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Trafford) scored 14 points to go along with four shots blocked.
Tiffany Seasoltz (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) dished out a season-high seven assists for the Lady Lions.
Thomas opened the scoring at 18:37 with a layup. She later kept it a two point game with another layup, cutting Mount Aloysius' lead to 7-5 at 16:03.
The Lady Mounties went on a 10-0 run after that, capped by Haley Bender's three-pointer at 12:45.
Becky Bard helped increase the visitors' lead, hitting a jumper, scoring a layup, and connecting on a three-pointer to make it 27-8 by 10:41.
A trey and jump shot by Morgan Brosnihan made it 32-8 by the 7:21 mark.
Layups by Seasoltz and Corrigan helped Penn State Altoona bounce back, making it 34-18 at 4:20.
Mount Aloysius held a 41-24 halftime lead, but the Lady Lions outscored the visitors 33-32 during the second half.
Layups by Allyson Hoffman (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) and O'Toole made it an 18 point game just under four minutes into the second period.
Later, Karah Fissel (Arendstville, PA/Biglerville) converted a three-point play, scoring the layup and sinking the free throw at 11:06 to cut Mount Aloysius' lead to 53-38.
An Alidia Strouse (State College, PA/State College) layup at 10:28 made it 53-40.
Penn State Altoona came as close as 11 points, but that was with just 1:20 remaining in the game on O'Toole's three-pointer.
The Lady Lions posted another strong effort in the paint, where they outscored Mount Aloysius 38-20.
