Seniors Lead the Way in Lady Lions' 79-74 Win Over D'Youville
2/9/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - On the team's Senior Day, it was appropriate that Penn State Altoona seniors Tamara Thomas (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Tiffany Seasoltz (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) had strong games to help the Lady Lions upset Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent D'Youville College 79-74 in the Adler Gym.
Thomas scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She now has 987 career points with one game remaining in the season.
Seasoltz scored 10 points and had a game-high eight assists to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
Allyson Hoffman (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) added 14 points for Penn State Altoona, while Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) scored 12, grabbed nine rebounds, and blocked three shots.
The Lady Lions turned what was a close game in the early stages of the first half into a big lead, helped by a 54.5% shooting percentage in the first half.
Seasoltz's fastbreak layup at 16:39 tied the game at 6-6. Four free throws by Hoffman gave Penn State Altoona a 12-8 lead by the 14:00 mark.
Hoffman's fastbreak score at 10:33 increased the Lady Lions' lead to nine points, 22-13.
Karah Fissel (Arendtsville, PA/Biglerville) made a layup at 9:41 to make it 26-15.
Corrigan's jumper a minute later kept her team's lead at 11, 28-17.
Late jumpers by Allison Edwards (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg) and Seasoltz put Penn State Altoona up 47-35 at the half.
Corrigan hit a jump shot at 17:55 of the second half to make it 51-39, but D'Youville went on a 14-5 run to cut the Lady Lions' lead to just three points by 13:22.
Thomas' layup and foul shot at 11:00 helped create a little more space on the scoreboard, making it 62-53.
Hoffman hit a jump shot at 7:23 to give the Lady Lions a 12 point lead again, 68-56.
Layups by the Lady Spartans' Alexis Smith helped the visitors close to within four points by 1:12.
But Penn State Altoona made five free throws in the final minute to hang on for the win.
