Lions Roll to 74-58 Senior Day Win Against D'Youville

2/9/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's basketball honored its five seniors in a ceremony before Saturday afternoon's game with Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent D'Youville College, then kept the momentum going with a 74-58 win.

The Lions recognized John Brennan (Philadelphia, PA/St. John Neumann-Goretti), Matt Gehret (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Durant Harvin (Baltimore, MD/Franklin), Mitch Moyer (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle), and Jordan Stiles (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) in the final home game of each player's career.

Gehret led the way with 23 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. He also blocked a game-high five shots.

Harvin scored 17 for the Lions, while Stiles added 11 points.

Brennan led the squad with 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Moyer scored three points to go along with two assists and two steals.

D'Youville opened the game by grabbing a 5-0 lead after Jake Maryniewski's jumper at Marcus Clarke's three-pointer.

But the Lions quickly battled back to take a 6-5 lead on Gehret's jumper at 17:18.

Gehret's layup at 11:55 extended Penn State Altoona's lead to 15-9, and Stiles hit a three-pointer at 10:13 to make it 18-10.

At 8:32, Stiles was fouled on a three-point attempt and made the ensuing free throws to increase the Lions' lead to 23-10.

Treys by Gehret and Harvin put Penn State Altoona up 29-13. Two foul shots made by Jonathan Ross (Columbia, SC/Cross Creek) and a jumper from Austin Griffith (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) made it a 20 point game by the 4:42 mark.

Ross' fastbreak bucket at 2:34 gave the home team a 37-15 advantage, and the Lions went into the locker room with a 37-21 lead at halftime.

Penn State Altoona continued to hold their ground in the second half. Brennan's layup at 17:49 made it 41-24. Harvin nailed a three at 15:09 to keep it a 17 point lead, 51-34.

Layups by Gehret and Michael Wigfield (Flinton, PA/Glendale) helped Penn State Altoona to a 23 point lead, 62-39, with 5:56 to play.

The Lions play their final regular season game on the road, traveling to face AMCC rival Penn State Behrend next Saturday, February 16 at 4:00 PM.
