Men's and Women's Swimming Teams Each in Fourth After First Day at AMCC Championships
GROVE CITY, Pa. - Thursday marked the first full day of events at the James E. Longnecker Invitational/Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at Grove City College, and the Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming teams each found themselves in fourth place at the conclusion the day's events.
The men's team has 30 points. Penn State Behrend leads the men's standings with 130. On the women's side, the Lady Lions have 37 points. Behrend also leads the women's teams with 68.
The men's squad picked up a pair of third place finishes in the finals for the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and the 400 Yard Medley Relay.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the team of Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County), David Pedersen (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria), Benjamin Porter (West Chester, PA/Unionville), and Keenan Halpin (Bensalem, PA/George School) notched a time of 1:32.73.
In the 400 Yard Medley Relay, Jonathan Delli Santi (Kenilworth, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences), Porter, Halpin, and Wareham finished in 3:45.21.
Mary Elizabeth McCulloch (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) was a standout for the women's team, winning the 50 Yard Freestyle. In the event's final, she edged her opponent by .05 to clock in at 25:95 and place first. Her victory was the only first place finish of the day for Penn State Altoona.
