McCulloch Named Swimmer of the Year, Takes First Team All-AMCC Honors; Thompson Earns Second Team All-Conference Nod

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona sophomore Mary Elizabeth McCulloch (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) was honored as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's co-Swimmer of the Year on Wednesday at the release of the 2012-2013 All-Conference Team. She shared the award with Pitt-Bradford's Melinda Mackenzie.

McCulloch also placed three times on the First Team All-AMCC squad, while fellow sophomore Maria Thompson (Altoona, PA/Altoona) earned a spot on the Second Team All-Conference.

McCulloch's recognition caps off a very successful 2012-2013 campaign for her. She was twice named the AMCC Swimmer of the Week during the season, and she posted three first place finishes at the AMCC Championships to help clinch First Team status.

McCulloch picked up First Team honors for three different events: the 50 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, and 200 Yard Breaststroke.

Thompson made a consistent impact for the Lady Lions in her first year with the program, and she was recognized as the AMCC's Swimmer of the Week once.

She was named to the Second Team in the 200 Yard Backstroke, an event in which she placed second in the AMCC Championships.
