Baseball Picked Fifth in AMCC Preseason Poll

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona baseball team was voted to fifth place in the 2013 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released on Friday morning.

The Lions finished fourth in the conference last year, posting a 9-7 AMCC record and a 17-22 overall mark.

La Roche College was selected as the top team in the poll. The Redhawks won the AMCC title last season.

In the poll, Jordan Swope (State College, PA/Tussey Mountain) and Anthony Castelli (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) were named as "Players to Watch" for the Lions this year.

Swope, a sophomore infielder, posted a .344 batting average in 2012. He scored 38 runs and collected 32 RBIs, and he hit eight doubles, two triples, and two home runs.

Castelli, a senior pitcher, started seven games on the mound and posted a 4.63 earned run average and a 4-2 record. He tossed one complete game and also recorded a save.
