Penn State Altoona Announces Simmons As New Tennis Coach
3/6/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona has announced the hiring of Doug Simmons to be the new head coach of the varsity men’s and women’s tennis programs.
“Doug’s enthusiasm and knowledge of the game will be an asset to our student-athletes,” said Penn State Altoona Director of Athletics Fredina M. Ingold. “I look forward to him continuing to guide our tennis programs along a path to success.”
A native of Altoona, Simmons was a four-year member of the Altoona Area High School boys varsity tennis team from 1999-2003. During his time with the team, the squad competed in the PIAA Team Tennis State Championships twice, finishing in second place in 2002 and third in 2003.

“I’m extremely thrilled and excited to be the new tennis coach at Penn State Altoona,” said Simmons. “I hope to use my coaching experience to help our teams improve. The goal every year will be to compete for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship and to represent ourselves well on the court.”
