Lady Lions Earn Wins Over Rivier, Green Mountain on Thursday

3/7/2013 — MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Penn State Altoona softball beat Rivier University 10-4 and Green Mountain College 11-0 on Thursday to improve their record to 5-3 this season.

In game one, Cassondra Ross (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle) started in the circle and threw four innings. Hannah Jackson (Troy, PA/Troy) added three scoreless innings of relief.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Lauren Bove (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) each collected two hits for the Lady Lions.

Lily Glunt (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) hit her first home run of the season in the win.

In game two, Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) tossed a complete game shutout, going five innings and allowing just one hit while striking out 12 batters. Her 12 strikeouts tie a Penn State Altoona softball program single game high.

DeArmitt also launched a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Lady Lions a lead. She led her team at the plate during the game with a 3-for-3 performance.

Meanwhile, Glunt and Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning.

Chambers and Jackson finished with two hits each in game two.
