Lady Lions Sweep Johnson State to Wrap Up Myrtle Beach Trip
3/8/2013 — MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Penn State Altoona softball defeated Johnson State College in a doubleheader on Friday morning, winning 8-0 and 13-1 to finish their Myrtle Beach spring break trip with a 7-3 record.
Jackie Smith (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) pitched a shutout in game one, allowing one hit and three walks while recording four strikeouts in a mercy rule-shortened, five inning contest.
At the plate, the Lady Lions were led by Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
Lauren Bove (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Lily Glunt (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) had two hits each.
In game two, Cassondra Ross (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle) started at pitcher and earned another victory, yielding one run on three hits in four innings of work.
Hannah Jackson (Troy, PA/Troy) tossed three perfect innings of relief with seven strikeouts.
Smith had another strong performance to lead her team in batting, going 4-for-5 and scoring three runs.
Bove finished the game with three more hits, and Rebecca Enedy (Portage, PA/Portage) collected two hits.
Penn State Altoona softball now returns to Pennsylvania and is scheduled to host its home opener on Wednesday, March 13 at 3:00 PM against Frostburg State University.
