Lions Downed 8-3 by #13 Shenandoah
3/15/2013 — WINCHESTER, Va. - Penn State Altoona baseball returned to the diamond Friday afternoon and took an 8-3 loss at the hands of #13 Shenandoah University at Bridgeforth Field.
John Szmed (Delmont, PA/Greensburg-Salem) had a hit, an RBI, and a run scored for the Lions.
Cody Swope (Robertsdale, PA/Tussey Mountain) and Ken Terpack (Rennerdale, PA/Chartiers Valley) also collected RBIs for Penn State Altoona.
The Lions put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Szmed opened the scoring with an RBI single to center, followed by Swope's run-scoring double.
But Shenandoah tied the game 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning, then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on Daniel Freshley's RBI hit.
Michael Paul clubbed a two-run homer in the sixth, and another Hornets run came home on an error to help Shenandoah double its score and make it 6-2.
Penn State Altoona got a run back in the seventh on Terpack's RBI base hit to right, but the home team added a run in the seventh and eighth inning to pad its lead.
