Juniata Overpowers Lions in Lubrano Park Duel
4/3/2013 — STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Juniata College cruised to a 19-5 win over Penn State Altoona baseball on Wednesday afternoon at University Park's Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Brandon Auman (State College, PA/State College) started on the mound for the Lions and posted a strong performance, giving up just one run in three innings of work.
But after the Lions dipped into the bullpen, Juniata pounced on them for a combined 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding lead.
Joe Sforza's sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning helped the Eagles get out to a 1-0 lead.
The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the second when Brandt Frye (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) singled up the middle to drive in a run.
An RBI single by Tyler Auerbeck (Middletown, PA/Bishop McDevitt) and a Juniata error allowed Penn State Altoona to claim a 3-1 lead in the third inning.
But an eight-run fourth inning put Juniata up 9-3, and the Eagles added three more runs in the fifth.
Down 19-3 in the ninth, the Lions added two more runs on RBI base hits by Nolan Spahr (East Berlin, PA/Bermudian Springs) and Louie Hile (Middletown, PA/Middletown).
