Lions Baseball Swept in Road Doubleheader at La Roche
4/10/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball fell in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, losing 7-2 and 5-1 to La Roche College.
In game one, the Redhawks scored a run on an error in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead.
Penn State Altoona answered in the top of the fifth, plating two runs to make it 2-1. Ken Terpack (Rennerdale, PA/Chartiers Valley) hit an RBI single to tie the game, and Cody Swope (Robertsdale, PA/Tussey Mountain) scored on an error for his team's second run.
But a six-run sixth inning for La Roche helped the home team clinch a victory in the first half of the doubleheader.
In the top of the second inning in game two, Austin Smith (Richeyville, PA/Bethlehem-Center) put the Lions ahead 1-0 with his RBI single.
But La Roche scored four runs in the fourth and added another in the sixth, cruising to a 5-1 win.
Matt Schmauder (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) led Penn State Altoona at the plate in the doubleheader, going 3-for-6 with one run scored.
